A trend that I wouldn't miss if it fell off the face of the earth tomorrow...

As an alumnae of the University of Delaware, I am very familiar with a fashion trend that one would say looks "comfortable". For college gals, it says, "I partied hard last night" or "I pulled an all-nighter studying and don't care what I look like right now". It is the ultimate messy outfit in my opinion and is not flattering at all. This fashion trend I speak of consists of: UGG Boots, a North Face fleece, and black tights/ leggings.

Along with these three articles usually comes a messy ponytail. I am not saying there is anything wrong with a pair of UGGs, North Face, or black leggings. I am saying there is something wrong with combining all three into one outfit. If in a rush, why not throw on skinny jeans, your UGGs, a sexy white v neck tee, and a cardigan?? It is more flattering than that frumpy North Face.

I am not too sure why wearing a North Face fleece is such a popular thing, especially among college campuses along the east coast. We are not skiing. If you're cold, pop on a pea coat over top of a cute outfit. What I am trying to say, is I just wish the North Face trend would DIE already. Leave. Be gone. Wearing leggings with a North Face makes you look naked and it is so unflattering, whether you are fit or not. I have known many a dude to make fun of girls that rock this look. Guys have caught on that it is your "messy, I don't care" look. Not hot.

I just ask that women become more creative and mix things up. You can be comfortable and fashion forward at the same time. So please ladies, keep the North Face fleece in the closet until the next time you go skiing. Buy some cute sweaters/ cardigans long enough to cover your booty in those leggings and maybe mix it up with a different brand of boots. Have fun, and MOST importantly, be creative, unique, and different. Express yourself with your clothes and wear your creations proudly. :)

2010: A New Year for Fashion in the First State

Delaware is a wonderful state to live in if you love tax free shopping. (Who doesn't?!) However, for the longest time, it has been a struggle to find unique, "trendy" clothes. The Christiana Mall has done a smart thing by deciding to remodel, delete some stores, and add some others. With all of the new additions to this mall, I expect to see some good style out on the streets. Forever 21 has been in the mall since Christmas time and I have been uber satisfied with the selection of clothes and accessories that they sell there. The stores I am most excited for are Urban Outfitters (FINALLY opening April 1st) and H & M (ABOUT DAYUM TIME). Style on a budget. A great variety of clothes for reasonable prices and a selection of clothing that most people in Delaware are not wearing yet. YET. Many ladies will be happy to know that ALDO is making a comeback and will make it's landing where the Steve Madden store used to be.

Many Delawareans are unfamiliar with a store called Anthropologie. This very special store made it's debut last week. The interior decorative style alone is very interesting and visually stimulating. Most, if not all, of the decorations are made from recycled products. Anthropologie sells women's apparel as well as cute products for your home/ apartment such as comforters, bath towels, mugs, and lamps.
The fashion at Anthropologie is eclectic, vintage, girly, and unlike clothes you see everyday. Each piece of clothing, whether a skirt, shirt, dress, or headband feels like you just found a piece of treasure. A cute shirt may cost anywhere from $50 to $90 regular price and a pretty dress may run $160. Each piece of clothing is unique and special in it's own way. They have some really cute Spring dresses and some great floral and nautical pieces. I think everyone needs to check out Anthropologie for themselves and make their own judgment. I, personally, am very excited about having this store in the Christiana Mall and can't wait to get shopping!
